Hot Chocolate Bar

I really love little “vignettes.”  They are fun to do and it gives me at least one pretty thing to look at while the rest of my house is a disaster!   I like to use the sideboard in my dining room for a little treat bar.  I change it out depending on the season, and right now I have a Hot Chocolate Bar.  During Christmas, I fancy it up a bit with paper straws, but for our usual everyday use I don’t bother with that detail.

The part that makes it extra fun is having all of the flavored syrups.  I get mine at World Market.  You can purchase Torani syrups on-line, but they are much more expensive.  They don’t go on sale very often at World Market, but when they do I buy several and use a coupon on top of that so it is not such an expensive purchase.  At my World Market they retail for around $8.00 a bottle, but I was able to buy these for half that with sales + coupons.  I highly recommend buying the pumps.  World Market also has the best price for the syrup pumps (~$3) and they really help dispense the right amount.  I like to buy sugar-free because I personally don’t like to waste calories on a drink.  For the large bottles, I chose coconut, s’mores, and wild cherry.  I was disappointed in the wild cherry; not because it didn’t taste good, it just made me think of cough syrup!  I guess cough syrup has ruined cherry flavor for a lot of things!

This nifty three compartment jar is plastic so it won’t break easily.  I got it at Wal-Mart in the wedding section.  I have peppermints, mini marshmallows, and Mexican mazapan candies (they are a peanut butter candy).  I figured that I have most every flavor combination covered between the syrups and candies!

There you have it!  A simple thing to put together and the kids think it is really cool!

Let me know if there is a combination that you really love that I haven’t thought of!

I love this idea, Rachel! In the past, I have bought Torani syrups at Wal-Mart and Kroger. They don’t carry the big bottles, and not a very wide selection of flavors, but maybe a lower price than at World Market. You can find them in the coffee section. I have used them to make Italian cream sodas in the summertime.

Holly – Thanks so much for commenting on my blog!!! I am pretty sure the torani syrups will be used in the summer time for snow cones. I have also used the s’mores one in an icecream milkshake.

  2. What a darling idea! You are so cute, and have such lucky kids.
