About a year or so ago I bought some Nordic Ware cookie stamps at Wal-Mart. I loved the idea, but I wondered if they would really work.
Well, I am here to tell you that cookie stamps DO work, and I have since purchased several more designs from Nordic Ware, and I just purchased some silicone stamps which are what I used today.
I am going to share my favorite tip for getting the cookies to turn out really beautiful.
It is simple: stamp your dough (shortbread dough is the best for holding onto the impression), then…
..after you have stamped the dough, use a circle cutter that is the right size to cut around your design.
The directions for using cookie stamps are to always roll a ball of cookie dough and then use the stamp to press it down flat. If you do that, you will get ragged, uneven edges. This way you get crisp, clean circles!
Cookie stamps are super fun to use. My only recommendation is to shop around – the prices for cookie stamps vary widely, so definitely DO NOT pay too much. I got this seven-piece silicone set (handle plus six silicone stamps) for $9.99 on Amazon. That is a great deal and about what I think a cookie stamp is worth. The Nordic Ware stamps will run you about $5.00 each at Wal-Mart, but they are heavier duty (not that a cookie stamp necessarily needs to be super heavy duty!) and have very classic designs.
Definitely give them a try, it is so fun!
