The blogosphere is already inundated with bath bomb recipes.
BUT, you will never find an easier or more fun way to make bath bombs than what I’ll show you here.
What makes my version so easy?
It uses already scented and moisturizing epsom salts. No need for additional coconut oil, essential oils, etc… (I am a huge fan of Dr. Teal’s products. You can read about some of my favorites here.)
Also, because I use a mooncake mold to create them, you are not limited in how many you can make at once. If you use silicone molds, you can only make as many as there are molds (at least at one time).
What makes my version so fun?
The mooncake molds!
Let’s get to it:
Below is a picture of everything you will need:
All of the ingredients can easily be purchased at your local Walmart. (or online):
From the Baking Aisle:
- Baking Soda (small box is sufficient)
- Cornstarch (small container is sufficient)
From the Canning Aisle (where they sell the canning jars, pectin, etc) I purchased mine online, which is why it is in a bag.
- Citric Acid (you will only need about 3.5 ounces or 1/2 cup)
From the Health and Beauty Area:
- Any scent Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salts (I LOVE the Super Moisturizing Avocado Oil one – it smells a little like juicy fruit gum)
Misc.:
- Spray Bottle
Simply whisk all of your ingredients in the following amounts:
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1/2 cup scented epsom salts
- 1/2 cup citric acid
After everything is whisked together, you will need to fill a spray bottle with water. Mist the surface of your mixture and stir.
Continue misting and whisking until the powder BARELY starts to get wet. As a matter of fact, it is not really going to feel wet, but it will feel “cold” to the touch. The goal is to add just enough water so that the mixture will stick together, but not enough to actually activate the fizzing!
It is ready when you take some of the mixture between your fingers and when you press down, it sticks together.
Now is the FUN part! Using the mooncake mold! You don’t have to use the mooncake mold, but it is so great in that you can make as many as you want at once and it is just so fun to get instant results!
Pack the mold over the bowl (to minimize making a mess)
Press it down firmly so you can flip it over without the mixture coming out.
Flip it over and press down hard on the plunger to compact the mixture as much as possible.
Lift your mold and Ta-dah! You have a beautiful bath bomb!
Let them dry for several hours to harden and then they are ready to go!
With the quantities listed above, you can get about 5 large bath bombs or 10 small bath bombs.
You can add food coloring if you would like, but I like to keep it as simple as possible and also, I don’t like to risk staining my bathtub!
Mooncake molds can be purchased online (Amazon, etc). The large ones in this post are around 120 grams and the small ones are 50 grams.
